Tablescape Thursday: Mexican Mosaic

On the fifth day....of the fifth month....

{Okay, so I completely took these verses out of context, but I struggled to come up with a coordinating Bible verse for this tablescape!}

Mr. Dishaholic and I had an early Cinco De Mayo dinner this past weekend, consisting of Chicken Enchilada Casserole, tortillas, chips, queso, and homemade guacamole.  (For recipes, click here.)

Just as the casserole was finishing up, I decided that I needed to throw together a "Mexican Mosaic" table for the occasion.  {There aren't quite as many pics as normal because I only had a few minutes before dinner would start getting cold!}

I began by grabbing a solid red tablecloth & a couple of green placemats with colorful stitching & a fuzzy red trim.  Then I took a quick look through my dishes, pulling out some of the most colorful ones I could find.

I chose these large square royal blue dishes for the base, turning them to add a little more interest.

Next I layered these red square salad plates.

A slightly smaller mosaic salad plate topped the red ones.

Then I figured, why stop there?  Keep layering on the mosaics.  So, I added these mosaic saucers, in a couple different patterns.

Colorful silverware and a coordinating napkin add to the mosaic of color and patterns.

A small coordinating bowl will hold queso for each of us.

I originally wanted to use my cobalt blue glassware, but these red glasses were much easier to get to, and since I was short on time, they did the trick.

Now I needed a centerpiece.  What better centerpiece is there for Cinco De Mayo than some chips, tortillas, & the fixings?

Since my bowls were primarily red, I decided that I needed to add another layer to the table, so that I wouldn't have red bowls sitting on a red tablescloth!

So, I grabbed a couple coordinating napkins and layered them to form a table runner!

{You'll have to excuse the wrinkles!  No time to iron!}

Here's a close up of the decorative edge:

I grabbed this small planter, which just so happens to have the same pattern as the saucers and queso bowls, lined it with a napkin, and filled with with tortillas.

Next a bowl of chips, queso, and fresh guacamole find their place on the table.

And there you have it!  A thrown together "Mexican Mosaic" tablescape in less than 15 minutes!
{And our dinner was still warm!}
