Tablescape Thursday Bonus: A Royal Spot of Tea

God set Him on high at His side, PRINCE and Savior, to give Israel the gift of a changed life and sins forgiven.
Acts 5:31 (The Message)

Where you among those who woke up at the crack of dawn to watch the royal wedding?
I have to admit, I like my sleep way too much to do that!
But I did DVR it.  And Saturday afternoon, while my hubby was playing in a golf tournament, I took a little time to fix myself a treat & sat down to watch the wedding.

Taking my color cues from Union Jack, I chose a mix of ROYAL blue, REGAL red, & WEDDING white.  Throw in a few gold crowns, and you have the perfect representation of British royalty, don't you think?

A gold tray and a ROYAL blue napkin, working as a small tablecloth, serve as a backdrop for this British-inspired trayscape.

A white plate with a gold CROWN design sits atop a slightly larger red plate.

A coordinating mug sits close by for tea or your beverage of choice.
{I have to admit, I'm not really much of a tea drinker myself.  If I'm having something sweet, some ice cold milk is more "my cup of tea".}

A teapot is elevated to its place of HONOR on a glass pedastal.

A red rose, picked fresh from the garden, adds a bit of ROMANCE.
A small gold crown, borrowed from a group of crowns in my bedroom, and a votive holder, add to the ROYAL feel.

Anyone care to join me for a spot of tea milk?

Tablescape Thursday: Mexican Mosaic

On the fifth day....of the fifth month....
Numbers 29:26; 33:38
{Okay, so I completely took these verses out of context, but I struggled to come up with a coordinating Bible verse for this tablescape!}

Mr. Dishaholic and I had an early Cinco De Mayo dinner this past weekend, consisting of Chicken Enchilada Casserole, tortillas, chips, queso, and homemade guacamole.  (For recipes, click here.)

Just as the casserole was finishing up, I decided that I needed to throw together a "Mexican Mosaic" table for the occasion.  {There aren't quite as many pics as normal because I only had a few minutes before dinner would start getting cold!}

I began by grabbing a solid red tablecloth & a couple of green placemats with colorful stitching & a fuzzy red trim.  Then I took a quick look through my dishes, pulling out some of the most colorful ones I could find.

I chose these large square royal blue dishes for the base, turning them to add a little more interest.

Next I layered these red square salad plates.

A slightly smaller mosaic salad plate topped the red ones.

Then I figured, why stop there?  Keep layering on the mosaics.  So, I added these mosaic saucers, in a couple different patterns.

Colorful silverware and a coordinating napkin add to the mosaic of color and patterns.

A small coordinating bowl will hold queso for each of us.

I originally wanted to use my cobalt blue glassware, but these red glasses were much easier to get to, and since I was short on time, they did the trick.

Now I needed a centerpiece.  What better centerpiece is there for Cinco De Mayo than some chips, tortillas, & the fixings?

Since my bowls were primarily red, I decided that I needed to add another layer to the table, so that I wouldn't have red bowls sitting on a red tablescloth!

So, I grabbed a couple coordinating napkins and layered them to form a table runner!
{You'll have to excuse the wrinkles!  No time to iron!}

Here's a close up of the decorative edge:

I grabbed this small planter, which just so happens to have the same pattern as the saucers and queso bowls, lined it with a napkin, and filled with with tortillas.

Next a bowl of chips, queso, and fresh guacamole find their place on the table.

And there you have it!  A thrown together "Mexican Mosaic" tablescape in less than 15 minutes!
{And our dinner was still warm!}

Wildcard Wednesday: Color & Couture Fashion Show

This past Friday I had the privilege of attending the IIDA (International Interior Design Association) OKC 3rd annual "Color & Couture Fashion Show."  This fashion show is unlike any other.
{Actually, I haven't been to too many other fashion shows, but I can bet that they're not like this one!}
Interior designers & architects from across Oklahoma come together for this amazing event, with the main purpose of raising funds for Positive Tomorrows.  Divided into groups of about 5-7, they are assigned both a color and a material, such as carpet, tile, wallcovering, etc.  They then have to design a dress using their assigned material & color!  Some of the designs are absolutely unbelievable!

So how did I hear about this fantastic event, you might ask?  Well, my sister is an interior designer & she has participated for the past two years (and her dresses have been amazing, I might add).  After attending last year's show, I was so excited when this one rolled around!

To get started, here's a few of my favorites, strutting their stuff on the runway.
The models are members of the group, not actual models, but they even get to participate in a modeling class beforehand!
{You'll have to forgive all the heads in the way!}
{Yes, she was about to come out of her dress!}

And now here's a few close ups of all the teams with their description:

Team 1
Burgandy
Product: Carpet
{The tulle skirt was removeable, giving the dress a couple of options.}
{Can you believe carpet was used for the majority of this dress?!}

Team 2
Purple Passage
Product: Vinyl Wallcovering
{This one won for best use of materials!  Although, I have to tell you, the material just about didn't cover a few crucial places!  It's hard to see her hair in this pic, but if you look at the last runway pic above, you can get bet a better idea!}

Team 3

Team 4

Team 5

Here's a close up of CC the parakeet.
{She's since been renamed "Twitter" because she was given up for adoption after the show.}

And here's my sister's team!  {She's the one in the middle.}

Team 11

{This one won designer's choice, which is kind of like Ms. Congeniality!}

Team 12

Team 13

{You can't see the back of this one, but it had a long train with hearts all the way down it, in honor of one of the sponsors, "Love's Country Store."  Very clever!}

 Team 14

{You can't really tell in the pic, but the wings had LED lights all lit up!  Amazing!  It won viewer's choice & best showmanship! }

How would you like to wear some of those dresses? I bet some were super heavy!!!

Hope you enjoyed the show!

Which is your favorite?
